
DISCIPLINE = a broad area of study. This discipline is DANCE. One Artist of the Year (seven total) will be named in each discipline.
SPECIALTY = an area of study within the discipline. Semifinalists and finalists will be named in each specialty.
Per specialty, instructors may nominate:
Two (2) Juniors and
Two (2) Seniors
= FOUR (4) total PER SPECIALTY.

A student may be nominated in one specialty within each of the seven disciplines. Students may only be nominated in one specialty per discipline.
Students should be nominated in the specialty that is her/his/their greatest strength within the discipline. If the student is strong in any of the other specialties within the discipline, the student will have the opportunity to submit additional materials to address those strengths.
CONCERT DANCE
styles with established or codified techniques,
including ballet and modern
COMMERCIAL DANCE
includes, but is not limited to contemporary, jazz, tap, Broadway
HIP HOP
includes, but is not limited to hip hop, b-boy/breaking, popping, locking, house, etc.
WORLD/CULTURAL DANCE
includes, but is not limited to folklorico, flamenco, Polynesian, Bharatanatyam, Irish, African, Persian, Latin, ballroom, belly dance, etc.
Any specialty showcased that is not the student's primary specialty is considered a SECONDARY SPECIALTY. Students DO NOT need to declare a secondary specialty. The application has room for students to add links to showcase work in secondary specialties if desired.
Along with their primary specialties, students may also consider showcasing the following:
CHOREOGRAPHY is not offered as a primary specialty. HOWEVER, a choreography video/reel may be submitted as a secondary component when a student is nominated in one of the other specialties.
