PHOTOS & PHOTO RELEASE
All students must submit a photo AND a photo release.

NOTE: Photos and the photo release are submitted by the student when filling out the online application. This is NOT the responsibility of the nominating instructor.
PHOTOS

Ideally, we want to see your face in your photo and it should reflect who you are as an artist.
​
Photos may be published in print or online by The Orange County Register, by Chapman University, on the Artist of the Year website, and by their successors, licensees and assigns.

PHOTO RELEASE
FOR PHOTOS TAKEN BY
SOMEONE YOU KNOW​
We will accept any photo you want to use as long as you are able to get signed permission from the photographer. To do this:

Print out the Photo Release pdf below.​

Fill out the top of the form.

Have the photographer sign the release. (If you are the photographer, you must sign the release.)

Scan or photograph the release with the relevant information filled out and signed.​

Upload the signed document as a jpg or pdf as a part of the online application
PHOTO RELEASE
FOR PHOTOS TAKEN BY A
PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER
or PHOTO STUDIO

OPTION 1: PHOTO BY STEVE WYLIE
If your photo was taken by STEVE WYLIE, you do NOT need to submit a photo release.
We have a release on file from him.​
​
OPTION 2: YOU HAVE A RELEASE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHER/STUDIO
​
If you HAVE a photo release from a professional photographer/photo studio for the photo you want to use, you may submit that as your photo release.
​
When providing a release from a professional photographer/photo studio, please do the following:
​
1. MAKE A COPY of the release.
2. HIGHLIGHT the following on the release:

THE NAME of the photographer/photo studio who took the photo.
​

Language that indicates that THE RIGHTS TO THE PHOTO BELONG TO YOU. In other words, that you own all the rights going forward for this photo.
​

Language that indicates YOU HAVE UNLIMITED PERMISSION TO USE THIS PHOTO. Once you submit your photo and this release when filling out your online application, you, as the Rights Holder, irrevocably grants to The Orange County Register a non-exclusive, perpetual, world-wide, all-media license to use all or any portion of your photo.

Language that indicates there are NO FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS TO THE PHOTOGRAPHER/PHOTO STUDIO FOR THE USE OF THIS PHOTO, now or in the future.
​
3. SCAN or TAKE A PICTURE OF THE RELEASE with the highlighted language.​
​
4. UPLOAD THE DOCUMENT as a jpg or pdf as a part of the online application.
​
If you are unable to confirm ALL of this information, you'll need to choose a different photo.
​
OPTION 3: YOU DO NOT HAVE A RELEASE FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHER/STUDIO

If you DO NOT HAVE written permission from the professional photographer or photo studio, your options are:

Get written permission by using the photo release document on this page.
OR
-
Use a different photo.
