FILM and TV VIDEOS

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 

Your submission should show how you think like an artist, not just technical excellence. 

​

If you are submitting a reel, put your strongest piece first.

​

We are not looking for perfection but we are looking for artistry. If you are nominated, we assume you are talented.  Use this opportunity to show us what you are trying to explore/create/convey as an artist.​ Show us work that resonates with you.
​ 

​

  • Strong videos show a strong understanding of storytelling. 

​

  • Videos should NOT include excessive violence or inappropriate language. 

​​

  • IMPORTANT: Videos should NOT include music or other clips for which you have not received copyright permission to use. 

​

  • If you are selected as a semifinalist, you will be asked to share additional work with the judges.

​​

NOTE: You will not be disqualified if s longer than the max length listed below, so don't worry about being EXACT.... HOWEVER, concise is best. Shorter is usually better.

​

For CINEMATOGRAPHY

​

  • Your submission should be no longer than a total of ten (10) minutes.

​

  • Your reel should show a minimum of two (2) contrasting pieces.

​

  • Each piece on your reel should be a minimum of one (1) minute in length so that we can get a sense of your cinematic style.

​

  • Please include text labels to help explain your contribution to each piece.

​

​

FOR FILM DIRECTING 

​

  • Your submission should be no longer than a total of fifteen (15) minutes.

​

  • Submissions may be one (1) single narrative piece, or two (2) contrasting pieces.

​

​

FOR VISUAL EFFECTS and EDITING 

​

  • Your submission should be no longer than a total of ten (10) minutes.​

​

  • Your submission should showcase a reel of your work.  We suggest showing at minimum three (3) pieces of your work. If you don't have 3 pieces to share, show us what you have.​

​

  • Please include text labels to help explain your contribution to each piece.

​

 

FOR PROMO and COMMERCIAL MAKING

​

  • Your submission reel should be no longer than a total of five (5) minutes.

​

  • Your reel should show a minimum of two (2) contrasting pieces. These pieces are typically 60 seconds or less and are designed to promote an event or idea, or sell a product or service.

​

  • While we understand that creating these pieces is a group effort, you should be the team leader/primary creative voice for each project you share.

​

  • Please include text labels to help explain your contribution to each piece.​

​

​

For TV/BROADCAST JOURNALISM

​​

  • Your submission should be no longer than a total of ten (10) minutes.

​

  • Your reel should show a minimum of two (2) contrasting pieces.

​

  • While we understand that creating these pieces is a group effort, you should be the team leader/primary creative voice for each project you share. 

​

  • Please include text labels to help explain your contribution to each piece.

​

  • This work is stylistically tied to a narrative voice where the journalist is a part of the story and the primary creative force behind the produced work.

VIDEO FORMAT

 

ALL LINKS MUST BE ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC. 

** No passwords/privacy settings. **

​

When we click on the link to your video, it should open directly without needing a password nor a special video player. 

​

Remember, you want the video to be EASY to view.  If the judges have trouble seeing your work, they will not take the time to figure it out and will move on without evaluating you.

​

We suggest uploading videos to: 

 

Vimeo - or - YouTube - or - Google Drive

​

then, provide the link to the uploaded video in the online application.

​

​

​

NOTE ABOUT PRIVACY SETTINGS

 

You can set the link so that it cannot be found via a search in case you need to protect your work for film festival submissions, however, anyone with the link should be able to open and view your work.

​
